The Ground Floor

DCMud presents the week's retail happenings

Sixth and Rye: Sixth & I Synagogue has partnered with Spike Mendelsohn of Top Chef, Good Stuff Eatery and We, The Pizza to create Sixth & Rye, the city's first kosher deli food truck that came to be as a result of a submission in the synagogue's "Next Great Idea of the New Year" contest in 2010. The truck launches tomorrow and will run Fridays only for now. Its whereabouts can be tracked through @sixthandrye on Twitter.

The Jack Rose: From Bill Thomas, owner of Bourbon and Breadsoda, comes the restaurant named for the cocktail, the opening of which was delayed partly due to massive road construction that obscured the entrance for months. The 5893 s.f. space with one of the city's longest bars (52 feet) will seat 300 people. The Jack Rose opening at 2007 18th Street, NW is calendared for June 7th.

Salt and Pepper: Nathan and Lindsey Aucher, former chef at the Canadian Embassy, will open an American-themed restaurant in the former Kemble Park Tavern space at 5125 MacArthur Blvd, in which all menu items, spirits, wine and beer are only available in the U.S. The couple met in culinary school at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York and have cooked together at BlackSalt and Equinox.

Hank's Oyster Bar (Expansion): Architect Eric Gronning of Gronning Architects has designed the 1800 s.f. expansion of this Dupont Circle restaurant at 1624 Q Street. By gutting the row house next door to the restaurant, Hank's will double the bar and outdoor patio spaces and offer private dining upstairs in the new building.

Austin Grill Express: This 2800 s.f. chain will join Bobby's Burger Palace and Looney's Pub in College Park's newest student housing, The Varsity, a Potomac Holdings development on 8150 Baltimore Avenue to open this August.

Toledo Lounge: After closing for a makeover and to expand their kitchen, the redoubtable Adams Morgan bar reopened last night.
