I hope...We are so lucky to have Harriet Tregoning. I hope she sticks around a long time. For decades, "planners" were utterly visionless and pessimistic. Now we see that things can change, and for the better.<br /><br />One crucial battle to fight is for our parks. In other cities, notably NYC, parks have exploded in quantity and quality in the past 10 years. With rare exceptions (Anacostia Riverfront by the Yards comes to mind), no such thing has happened in D.C. Why? The National Park Service is incompetent, broke, and hopelessly unimaginitive, and psychologically unsuited to run urban parks. In comparison, DC's DPR is merely incompetent. And a lot of parks are under the jurisdiction of the Public Schools, who have other priorities quite understandably.
