Does Soutwest really need another bulky office building? Why not consider breaking the massive site up into a series of smaller buildings and uses. This plan seems to reinforce Southwest's image (and reality) as a sterile and barren area - hardly what's needed to bring the area into the "21st century."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22305958.post-7096864758975831992007-10-03T18:21:00.000-04:002007-10-03T18:21:00.000-04:00I thought the farmer's market was held at the USDA...I thought the farmer's market was held at the USDA building at 12th & Independence. If there was also one at the former DOT building, now to be known as Constitution Center, I never knew about it. (I, too, work right nearby.)

I'm definitely disappointed to not see any discussion of plans for retail space, since Southwest DC is in desperate need of shops and restaurants to cater to both the residents and the thousands of Federal government employees in this neighborhood.

Will the L'Enfant Plaza Metro Station entrance/exit at 7th & D SW be re-opened when the project is complete? I noticed that the description of the new building mentioned a "private" courtyard. The Metro entrance/exit is in the courtyard area of the building.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22305958.post-37705900040430518032007-08-28T20:56:00.000-04:002007-08-28T20:56:00.000-04:00i work next to this building.they have a great far...i work next to this building.
they have a great farmer's market, and other events on the ground level/courtyard part of the building.

i hope they can keep that. everyone in all of the nearby gov't buildings go there and purchase flowers, fruits, etc.

i hope they can keep that community involvement in the new bldg.

it really gives a sense of belonging to the area. most folks live in the subarbs of MD and VA. it's a chance for them to engage in a 'local' market, without having to travel far away from their daily commute.

simply changing it to another bland office bldg. would be lame.

anyone know if they have plans to keep the community activities in place? it's next to the metro, so ... there's definitely a market.

kinda dissapointed that there's no retail involved in the development...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
