Forest City has begun work in earnest on the boilermaker shops, its first retail pavilion at the Yards in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood. The building was constructed in 1919 as part of the Navy's largest shipbuilding factory, what would become the world's largest naval ordnance plant.Forest City has announced the following tenants: Buzz Bakery and a brewery, both operated by the Neighborhood Restaurant Group, Austin Grill Express, Huey's 24/7 Diner, and BRB, all expected to open in late 2012. Walked by there this morning and it is really coming along. New glass, new roof, etc. Can't wait till the (late) summer when it opens up.
Beautiful - that place is going to be unlike anything else in DC!
Forest City is very good at adaptive reuse like this. It will be a welcome addition to the SW waterfront.

The sooner the better as there is almost no retail in the Navy Yard area. We have 4 places to purchase meals, 2 coffee shops and a CVS. Oh, and plenty of banks.
