Today in Pictures - 455 Eye Street


Equity Residential's mixed-use redevelopment encompassing several historic properties at 443-459 Eye Street, NW is close to beginning construction.  With a predicted groundbreaking in August, and with Clark now signed up as the General Contractor, developers will soon begin tearing down the non-historic portion in favor of a residential tower with 174 unitsHickock Cole Architects has designed the new building.

While it's good the area will be developed and "revitalized" I expect every ounce of character of the buildings remaining will be bleached out and homogenized.

Please do not use the words "tower" or "high-rise" when referring to residential or commercial property within the District of Columbia. The terms just don't apply.

Will these buildings have too much glass like so many new DC buildings?

Anonymous 1 - what's with your negativity?? Whether you agree with the amount of glass or terms used to describe the development, the new development is great for the neighborhood and District as a whole. Keep your negative Nancy attitude to yourself.

The term "high-rise" does apply to DC as the city has over 400 of the structures - more than Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, Miami, Seattle, Arlington, VA, and so on. It's a fact.
